Hyundai has begun producing electric SUVs in Georgia less than two years after breaking ground on its sprawling, $7.6 billion manufacturing plant west of Savannah.

Hyundai Motor Group started production of the freshened 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 crossover at its new electric vehicle factory in Georgia. Assembly of the compact electric crossover begins less than two years after the Korean automaker broke ground at the 3,000-acre Metaplant site in Bryan County, outside of Savannah.

Hyundai's factory in Georgia held an “employee-focused celebration” as its first EV for commercial sale rolled off the assembly line.
