Embattled New York City Mayor Eric Adams has accepted the resignation of his deputy mayor for public safety, Philip Banks.

The city's deputy mayor for public safety quit, becoming the sixth top official to do so in the past month as Mayor Adams navigates federal indictment.

Public Advocate Jumaane Williams would become acting mayor and set a special election if Adams leaves office before his first term expires at the end of 2025.
